I am different from most academic consultants because I have lived at the sharp end of accountability for decision-making and spending for policy and practice.
I’m different from most management and general consultants because my base is in science and authoritative research evidence on what works in the social sector.
I’ve worked in partnership inside services in real communities for many years. I can talk meaningfully to front line staff and to beneficiaries and service users, as well as your most senior executives, Board members or external partners.
I have devoted my whole career to the science and art of effective service design and delivery.
A seasoned researcher and evaluator of social initiatives large and small, my more recent work has focused on leveraging learning and evidence from the field of international implementation science for the benefit of services at the sharp end of community need.
My career across the UK and in Ireland has included
Setting up and directing three well-respected research and implementation support centres
Acting as an advisor to large and small philanthropies and their Boards
Advice and support to local authorities and national government departments
Hands-on help to a wide range of public and voluntary organisations to review and improve their functioning
Supporting and facilitating knowledge and implementation networks
Measuring and evaluating outcomes
Implementation review and assessment
Research and writing for a wide range of audiences
Teaching, training and lecturing
A forensic and insightful systems-thinker, and an experienced and sensitive communicator, from my base in East Sussex in the UK I am now working through Colebrooke Social Consulting to offer a unique blend of expertise to individuals, teams and organisations who share my focus on bringing rigour to the business of improving social outcomes.
